Vinicola de Bráfim (Padró)
Our Capitol brand is a tribute to the excellent wines made in our area as far back as Roman times. The Capitol or, in Latin, Capitolio (look closely at the label – can you see the last two letters?) was a temple which stood at the center of every Roman city housing, apart from a statue of the Emperor, some symbolic representation of the Empire. In addition to this and due to its strategic location on the Mediterranean, the city of Tarraco, today’s Tarragona, was one of the most important cities in the Roman Empire. It was also quite literally the “capital” or main center for wine production at the time and wines from Tarraco were highly prized and exported all around the Empire, even to Rome itself. The excellent quality of Tarragona’s wine has been maintained to this day through careful attention to the vines and general good practice.
Detailed Information
Tasting Notes
A wine with a bright surface and good depth. Aromas of ripe fruit such as raspberries or red currants. Very flavourful in the mouth, balanced, rich in fruity aromas, big and tenacious with hints of strawberry and licorice.
Production Features
Made using Ull de LLebre (or Tempranillo in Spanish), which is the predominant variety in the area and produces light, fruity red wines, Our winemaker has also gradually introduced Merlot into the wines to bring them finesse and aromatic nuances, resulting in strong color and texture and wines which are ideal for aging in oak barrels.
