In the XI century, a group of French monks from Cluny in Burgundy went to Galicia along the path of St. James. They take with them several servings of the vine. When the monks arrive in Rias Baixas they decided to stay in a beautiful valley by the sea and build a monastery: Armenteira. The monks plant their vines and soon realize how well they adapt to this new land. One of the monks is appointed official winemaker of the monastery.
He will be called "cilleiro," or cellar master.
In the darkness of the basement, he keeps the treasure of Armenteira: white wine, created to touch the sky. 1000 years later, we continue to make wine in this area. And our inspiration is still the care and passion of the ancient cilleiro.
